What you can do to Help

As the US government, the UN, RedCross and other organizations begin the intial phase of recovery, there are things we can do right now to help.  Although the most immediate need is money, soon they will begin accepting donations for items once the roads are clear and locations are set up throughout the country to distribute these items. So, now is the time to set up drop-off points and begin the prelimanary work of collecting goods.

Nubian Literary Network is accepting non-perishable food, clothes, and water to help the people in Haiti. But again, what they need must right now is money to help with the recovery.

Your Action Plan:

  1. Donate your “lunch money” for the rest of the week by texting YELE to 501501, to donate $5 or HAITI to 90991, to donate $10.
  2. Begin collecting clothes, non-perishable food and water and send your packages to: Nubian Literary Network, 18520 NW 67 Ave Suite 241, Miami, Fl 33015. You can also send them to your local Red Cross or Church. Listen to your local radio and news stations for other drop off points in your area.
  3. Encourage your book club, mailing list, friends and family members to do the same.

    • This is going to be a long process. First recovery, than meeting immediate needs and finally rebuilding. I’m hoping that people really commit to helping, whether is through donating or volunteering and it doesnt become another “yesterday news so yesterday problems.”
